Francesca Garbugio is “hungry”. To understand. To know. To achieve the goals her vision has already clearly outlined. Francesca has clear ideas about the steps of her professional journey, and although failure may be the only threat in her rock-solid life outlook, she is confident that her determination to achieve the goals she has set for herself will help her get back on her feet. After an internship at ASA at the end of her studies—she holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, which she completed with a master's degree in bioengineering with a specialisation in rehabilitation—Francesca is now fully integrated into the company.
What brought you to ASA?
The internship is one of the required steps in my studies. To ensure it would be truly valuable for my future, I sought a company that could support me during this phase. ASA was not a random choice, but a deliberate one. I researched the company through its communication channels and even took a peek at it from the outside to see if it would be the best fit for me. The answer was an immediate “yes,” so I took action.

While you were doing your internship, you were also working in addition to writing your thesis. A remarkable feat. Did the company support you during this phase?
Very much. I was also given the opportunity to manage my internship in the way that best suited my needs. I believe the independence and organisational freedom I was granted contributed significantly to my ability to prepare my thesis and graduate in the time I had set myself. But that's not all. ASA literally provided me with tutors who, despite their busy schedules, were able to look after me.
Your thesis focused on one of ASA's cornerstone therapies.
My thesis was based on the simulation, experimental, and clinical analysis of the thermal effects induced by MLS® in both human and veterinary settings. A topic that allowed me to gain a close understanding of this therapeutic solution, thanks to the support and constant presence of the two tutors who worked alongside me in the human and vet divisions. Thanks to them, I was able to truly immerse myself in the ASA world, receiving a comprehensive and structured overview.
During the two and a half months of the internship, what impression did you form of ASA?
Besides being a company undergoing profound change, ASA is first and foremost a family, where cohesion exists, as does a willingness to help. ASA is a company that “listens” and offers concrete growth opportunities to those willing to get involved and commit. It is a company where the human element is strong, as is the attention to valorising the ideas and proposals that are put forward. For all these reasons, and many more, at the end of my internship, I asked if there was an opportunity to stay…
...what were the “other reasons” that led you to want to start your career at ASA?
In no particular order: the company's product, the way ASA works, and above all, the team. ASA was—and is—a “field school”, where you feel part of a “larger” project and where everyone is called upon to contribute, regardless of age or experience.
You're currently part of the “Quality” division: do you feel it's a good fit for you?
I'm truly learning a lot in this specific area and couldn't have asked for a better place to learn about the dynamics that define the company. However, I'm hungry to learn, and since the company is evolving, I hope to explore other contexts in the future. There's much to do and build: a great incentive for those, like me, who are eager to challenge themselves and aren't afraid of change. ASA invests in me every day, and I in it. Trust, when mutual, is a driver of mutual growth.
If ASA, as you say, gave you the opportunity to begin building your professional career, also making you independent in managing your activity, what do you think Francesca has brought to the company with her arrival?
A fresh perspective and a “different” vision, the result of both my recent studies and my desire to “get things done”.
