Hilterapia® at Beijing 2008

The Italian National Fencing Team came back triumphant from the Olympic mission. Seven of the 28 medals that have been won, have been gained by the fencers: 2 gold and 5 bronze.

Never before the scientific research has been able to demonstrate how effectively it can be applied to sport, not only to improve the performance but working directly on the athletesʼ body.

The Italian National Fencing Team could count on a new element this time: an innovative therapy called Hilterapia®, irradiate through the device HIRO®, took care of the team during the Olympic Games.

On the occasion of the 29th edition of the Olympic games, Asalaser, the Italian company producer of HIRO®, has created an advanced version of the device purpose-made for the Italian Fencing League,  a more functional and handy version, to be used in the training phase as well as during the days of the competition and the ones preceding it.

Fencing is a sport that provokes continuous stresses on the lower limbsʼ joints and in particular on the spine. Dr. Alessandro Pagliaccia, head of FIS medical section, explained «In this sport problems are especially represented by chronic pathologies, tendinous or muscular inflammations, distress of the joints, spine and muscles along it, intra vertebral discs.

«Hilterapia® has been used on our athletes both with a preventive and rehabilitative purpose. Through the preventive approach the muscular activity is stimulated to increase the vascularization in order to prevent possible lesions during the activity» — says Dr. Pagliaccia -. «The main object of Hilterapia® is rehabilitation, which helps repairing the damage and bring the athlete back to shape in the shortest period possible».

The medical staff was composed by a highly qualified team of 2 doctors and 3 physiotherapists. Thanks to the staff great professionalism and the innovative care methodologies, CONI has asked them also to support the athletes of the Judo League as well as Taekwondo, Gymnastic and Pentathlon ones.

And again results had not to be waited for, with Giulia Quintavalle who won the gold in the 57 Kg category of Judo and Mauro Sarmento who won the silver in the 80Kg category of Taekwondo.
