The Lowell Sun: laser therapy an alternative to opioids for pain management

01 March 2022 - Therapies -

A new draft guideline by the US CDC (one of the main operational components of the Department of Health and Human Services for preventing and controlling diseases) includes laser therapy as an alternative to prescribing opioids for pain management. By stimulating the mitochondria of the treated area, laser therapy increases growth and cell repair rate and, at the same time, regulates the response of nerves, which send less signs of distress to the brain.  In particular, laser therapy is appropriate for treating chronic back and neck pain. This acknowledgement is subsequent to the one issued by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, which recommends the use of laser to treat osteoarthritis of the knee. The news was provided by the American online magazine The Lowell Sun which also reports the approval of the new guidelines by Doctor Scott Sigman, an orthopaedic surgeon in Massachusetts and a long-time user of M8, the robotic device for MLS® Laser Therapy.
