Meeting of ISSBB

07 April 2009 - Trade fairs & Congresses -

Dr. Monica Monici attended the IV Meeting of ISSBB - Society for Space Biomedicine and Biotechnology, held in S. Margherita Ligure from 31/03/09 to 02/04/09.

In this framework, Dr. Monica Monici presented the results of studies carried out in ASAcampus laboratories and concerning the effect of loading/unloading and photomechanical stress on the differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSc). Photomechanical stress caused by pulsed Nd:YAG laser induced effects similar to the ones produced by loading. Both of them seem to favour chondrogenesis and osteoblastogenesis, that is the differentiation of hMSc towards cell types belonging to cartilage and bone. These “physical type” stimuli can work in synergy with biochemical factors, such as yeast plasmolysat that is effective in favouring osteoclastogenesis too, as observed in recent studies."
