Treatment of a rhythmic gymnastics athlete, category a, using contact Hilterapia® together with active proprioception mobilization on trauma of the subtalar join.

TRAUMA SUFFERED: In October 2009 contorsive-distorsive trauma of the right ankle caused by a road accident

RMN: Oedema acting on the subtalar joint with fibrous synostosis on the sustentaculum tali

SYMPTOMATOLOGY:  Frontal pain when loading the subtalar joint and frontal-side pain in the foot during bending (to 85°)

THERAPY WITH HILTERAPIA®:

  1. Standard contact protocol on subtalar joint
  2. Protocol with contact method in active proprioception mobilisation

EXPLANATION OF THE CONTACT PROTOCOL WITH ACTIVE PROPRIOCEPTION MOBILISATION: I thought of using contact Hilterapia®, combining it with active proprioception mobilization for the following reasons:reasoning on the functional dynamics of subtalar joint

  1. hypothesising that the laser beam would be more efficient during movement along the Henke axis(because of the difficulty in reaching this area) and mobilising the sustentaculum tali where the fibrous synostosis had formed
  2. hypothesising that the instability and continuous proprioception mobilisation of the joint and the laser beam used together would increase biological stimulation in several parts, with an increase in the repairing process
  3. carrying out the proprioceptive exercises during physical therapy would optimise the reathelisation times, therefore the return to competitive sport.
